Built to Outlive a Generation: The Two-Tone Green Carbon BMW X7

Built to Outlive a Generation: The Two-Tone Green Carbon BMW X7

In 2027, BMW replaces the X7 with an all-new generation. Every current-generation car on the road becomes, overnight, the previous one. Unless it was never the standard one to begin with.

This LARTE PERFORMANCE build was finished before that announcement was made — a two-tone green carbon configuration where colour lives inside the material rather than on top of it, matched panel by panel to the painted body, hood to diffuser.

Seven years of one rear

Seven years of one rear

The X7's April 2022 facelift was a front-end event: split headlights, a new grille, a curved display. Behind the front doors, almost nothing moved. The bootlid, the taillight geometry, the diffuser and the tail line of every X7 built between 2019 and 2026 come from the same drawing. In the same period, the GLS was updated twice.

This is where the kit does its most visible work: a carbon rear diffuser, rear bumper overlays with elerons, and a roof spoiler that closes the silhouette. Not decoration — geometry. The result gives the car a rear with the same visual weight as its front, on the part of the car that waited the longest for it.

The hood that sets the tone

The hood that sets the tone

The LARTE PERFORMANCE hood is a full replacement panel, not a cover — sculpted, vented, cut in 100% dry carbon, and mounted to your car's original attachment points. It is the component that changes the car's character before anything else registers, and the single piece that makes an X7 read as a decision rather than a configuration.

Colour, carried through the material

Colour, carried through the material

The carbon here is coloured during layup, before the autoclave — so the tone cures inside the weave rather than sitting on its surface. Then the body paint is developed against those cured samples, panel by panel, until the two materials read as one. Two tones of green on this build; the same process takes any colour you bring, solid or gradient, matched to your paint code or set deliberately against it. Classic black weave remains available — it is simply one option among several now.

Two configurations

Two configurations

The green build is one answer. The second car in this programme carries a violet carbon exterior against a pearl white body — the same ten components, the same certification, a completely different reading of the car. One configuration matches carbon to paint until they read as a single material; the other sets them deliberately apart. Both start from the same kit. What separates them is the decision made before layup begins.

Three-dimensional scan, CAD, clay modelling, carbon layup, hand-finishing — the full cycle runs at LARTE Design's atelier in Erkrath, near Düsseldorf. The programme was in production before BMW confirmed the next generation. It will be on the road after the next generation arrives.

Factory model generations are replaced every six to eight years. A car built around its own architecture, in its own colour, runs on a different calendar entirely.

Design leads. Engineering finds the way.
