Signature has arrived: a 100% dry-carbon programme for the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 facelift

Signature has arrived: a 100% dry-carbon programme for the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 facelift

Twelve components. Hundreds of configurations.

The new body kit for Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Facelift by LARTE Design is called Signature — and the car it was built for is one of those rare machines that lives two parallel lives. One of them happens on private driveways and at exclusive events. The GT 63 four-door is the most powerful AMG sedan ever built, and its plug-in hybrid form delivers 843 horsepower from a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 paired with an electric motor on the rear axle. Zero to 100 km/h takes 2.9 seconds. The numbers belong on a hypercar.

The other life happens in pit lane at every Formula 1 Grand Prix. Since the Bahrain race weekend in March 2022, the same four-door body shell has been the Official FIA Formula 1 Medical Car — on duty for four consecutive seasons through 2026, carrying Dr Ian Roberts and a local medical crew, shadowing the field through the opening lap of every race. It is the most-televised four-door AMG in history.

The two cars share a silhouette. They share a body shell. They share an emblem on the bonnet. The finish is where the story turns — and where Signature begins.

What the facelift changed, and what it left

What the facelift changed, and what it left
The facelifted Mercedes-AMG GT 63 arrived for the 2024 model year with a wider Panamericana grille, new vertical air ducts in the outer corners of the front bumper, refreshed tail-lamp graphics and an updated MBUX system inside. The front of the car gained an authority it had been missing — closer in spirit to the two-door C192 AMG GT than the previous-generation sedan.

The rest of the car stayed where it was.

The side profile, the roofline, the rear-three-quarter geometry, the rear bumper architecture — all carried forward from the 2018 original. The factory aerodynamics package, an optional extra at €2,850, added a fixed rear spoiler that reviewers in respected outlets have politely described as "a little Pep Boys." More fundamentally, the 843-horsepower GT 63 S E Performance reads almost identical to the entry-level 362-horsepower GT 43 — same body, same proportions. The most powerful AMG sedan ever built can look, from twenty paces, like the cheapest one in the range.

This is the gap Signature was built to close.

Level 2: the bespoke layer above the factory list

Level 2: the bespoke layer above the factory list
Every premium manufacturer offers a configurator. The list is finite, the options are pre-specified, and the same combinations are available to every other owner of the same car. This is Level 1. Choose every option, and the car is fully optioned by the catalogue. Pick none, and it is a standard GT 63. Either way, the result is replicable. Other owners will arrive at the same specification.

Level 2 begins where Level 1 ends

Level 2 begins where Level 1 ends
Level 2 is what happens after the factory configurator is closed. It is the bespoke layer above the option list — an individually configured dry-carbon body programme, designed for one car and signed off for one client, with hundreds of valid combinations of finish, surface treatment, wheel specification and bespoke detail available within the Signature framework.

The client who buys a GT 63 facelift has already chosen to stand apart. The client who commissions Signature wants the car itself to confirm that choice in every panel — and to read as their own car at a glance, in a row of other GT 63 facelifts.

The factory builds a car for thousands of owners. LARTE Design finishes one car for one client.

The twelve-part programme

The twelve-part programme
Signature is a complete dry-carbon body programme developed specifically for the 2024–2026 facelift mounting points. Twelve components, each one drawn around the geometry of the post-2023 car.

The front: a sculpted carbon bonnet, an aerodynamically contoured bumper trim, a full-carbon front splitter with a body-colour accent that ties the lower face back to the bodywork, sculptural front wing trims, and full-carbon mirror caps. Long carbon side-sill blades that stretch the visual length of the car and add kinetic tension along the lower silhouette.

The rear: sharp carbon bumper inserts, a rear diffuser fitted to OEM mounting points with no cutting required, a trunk spoiler engineered to replace the factory aero with a more composed coupé line, brushed twin exhaust tips, and crystal-structured LED brake lights that cut through the night and enhance the symmetry of the rear.

Every panel is dry carbon. Every panel is autoclave-cured. Every panel meets the Class-A surface grade — the same optical standard Mercedes-AMG itself applies to visible carbon-fibre components in the GT Black Series and the AMG ONE. Materials are TÜV-certified, on original mounting points, with documentation in the delivery.

Configuration is open

Configuration is open
Every Signature commission is configured individually. The client chooses the finish strategy first: full dry carbon for a single-material reading, body-colour high-gloss for a quieter and more integrated treatment, or a mixed approach — gloss bonnet over carbon side blades, carbon diffuser against body-colour bumper inserts, any combination the client wants to explore. Each of the twelve components can be specified in either finish independently.

The wheels are offered in a range of forged colour and finish options. Accent colours on the splitter and diffuser can be specified in any factory or custom paint. Bespoke elements — secondary materials, interior carbon detailing, badge treatments — are developed on request.

Within 24 hours of the initial brief, the client receives a personalised technical proposal: finish, materials, wheel specification, optional bespoke elements, lead time, TÜV documentation status. From the moment that proposal is signed, the build is unique to the commission.

Every Signature panel begins as a clay model worked against an actual facelifted GT 63 in the atelier. The clay is scanned into a 3D surface model. The surface model is prototyped, tested for fit against the original mounting points, refined, prototyped again. Once the surface is final, the production tooling is cut, the dry-carbon cloth is laid up, and the autoclave does the rest.

The Class-A finishing is the final stage — the part of the process that hand and eye must complete. Each panel is inspected under raking light, hand-finished, inspected again, and signed off only when the surface reads as a single piece of glass. The TÜV documentation follows: mounting points, crash structure, panel geometry — all certified against the facelifted X290 chassis specifically.

Signature is for the owner who already understands what 843 horsepower means in a four-door body, and who wants the visual reading of the car to match what it is doing mechanically. For the client who walks past a row of GT 63s at a luxury event and recognises every single one as the same factory specification. For the owner who knows that the same body shell, in a different finish, is on the F1 grid every other Sunday, and wants to acknowledge that quietly, in dry carbon, on their own car.

The factory builds for thousands. Signature finishes one for you.
